Session 1:
Introduction to Journalism.
Interactive session designed to instill the spirit of enquiry
by asking who, what, how and when.
Going through newspapers, magazines and watching television.
Session
2:
Aspects of Journalism.
Interactive session on politics, the environment, wild life,
civic issues and features.
Session
3:
Related fields.
Photo Journalism, cartooning, editorials.
Session
4:
Visit to a newspaper office.
A look into the workings of Deccan Herald/Times of India.
Session
5:
Visit to a TV studio.
The television studio visit will be followed up by club members
engaging in a live debate at Hippocampus in order to recreate
the atmosphere of a live telecast.
Session 6:
Meeting a journalist.
Children get a first hand account of what it's like to be
a journalist.
Session
7:
Meeting a photographer/cartoonist.
Children get to chat with Ponappa of Times of India, and meet
a photo journalist from Deccan Herald/ Times of India.
Session
8:
Electing the hippocampus newsletter team.
Children go over what they have learnt and then elect a team
of reporters, writers, an editor and photographer.
Session
9:
Starting the Hippocampus Newsletter.
Children get to create their own newsletter using everything
they have learnt - reporting, writing, designing, laying out
and taking photographs, etc.
Session
10:
Newsletter as a `change agent'.
Kids get to pin point a situation they would like to alter
and see if they can use the newsletter as a means of change,
eg; bad roads, garbage, environment, etc.

11:
Slide show on wild life.
Children see how photo journalism goes hand in hand with writing
for magazines.
Session
12:
Keeping the newsletter alive.
Children to keep in touch with the current affairs of their
lives - at home, school, and the neighbourhood.
